ROLE IN NATIONAL NETWORKING ACTIVITIES

NITA is an implementing Agency under the Ministry of Communications,Ghana with the responsibility of implementing government IT projects.I am IT Engineer responsible for network designs,IP distributions and network management.

The present and future netwoking activities are very necessary to this role in my country's network role out. 


A brief description of your computing and networking environment (operating systems, 
networking software, modems, etc.), including the connectivity of your organization 
to the Internet and your country's connectivity to the international Internet*

Under the proposal for an e-Government network infrastructure to be built by Huawei, NITA has initially estimated the network to reach up to 1050 sites around the country. Up to 550 locations to be reached via  WIMAX wireless last mile access networks operating on the 2.5GHz band that are to be built in all the regional capitals, and an additional 500 locations  to be linked via various other means, including direct fibre optic connectivity, High capacity microwave links, VSAT access over the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MoFEP) VSAT network, and leased terrestrial circuits from local telecommunication and internet service providers. 
This network is intended to connect not just the Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies, but Hospitals, Schools, Police stations, National Health Insurance, Immigration, Agric Extension service , IRS and VAT offices as well as virtually all other public offices or institutions in all the towns that are within the network coverage areas.

The government of Ghana is currently deploying a network called eGovernment Network Infrastructure to connect all the various government agencies across country for easy information flow and data exchange.

With this development,the Afnog training will enhance my skills and knowledge to better manage the complex network being deployed currently.I have been part of the technical team from the onset..and i have gain enough insight on how the whole network will operate when it goes live in few month time.
